Nedbank Namibia Green Warriors
Staff volunteerism is an intrinsic part of our Deep Green Aspirations, squarely founded on our quest to be a “green and caring bank” and a “great place to work”. The Green Warrior ethos has been firmly embraced by Nedbankers this year, who have gone out and touched hearts and much in the communities that we live in:
Day of Giving
The Katutura Branch, in conjunction with Pick n Pay and Twafiika Events, organised a Day of Giving in June and handed out soup to the elderly and vulnerable members of society.
Credit Administration Department – Ouma Maria Snyders
Having been moved by the story of Ouma Maria Snyders, the Credit Admin Department used their allocation under the Green Warriors initiative to spread some joy.
Electronic Banking
As part of their Green Warrior Initiative the Electronic Banking department gave up half of their N$200.00 that the bank had given to them as part of the Flexcube appreciation gift. They used these funds with their own internally collected funds to purchase blankets and ingredients to make soup. They visited the Babylon Old Age home and also Clever Kids in 8ste Laan in Otjimuise to distribute the blankets and provide the elderly and vulnerable children with an inviting cup of soup.
Finance
After hearing of their cause and what they stand for, the Finance Department decided to support the King’s Daughters organisation, where they handed out food hampers, blankets and second-hand clothes to approximately 30 families.
Credit Retail & External Sales (RHL)
Love Your Neighbour Pre-Primary School is situated in Okuryangava residential area, Katutura, Windhoek and it is run by the Swartz family. It has more than 300 children and a big disaster hit the school last year which essentially caused the school to burn down to the ground.
They managed to rebuild the structure with the help of the community, NGO’s etc however more help was needed to bring the structure to the minimum required standards (i.e. suitable room with cement floor, running water as well as proper toilet facilities. This prompted this team to intervene by means of their identified Green Warrior cause, choosing to reconstruct the new classroom’s dilapidated roof (pictured below) entirely towards the end of November.
Home Loans
As part of their Green Warrior cause, this team chose the Heart for the Children Pre-primary School in Rehoboth for their staff volunteerism project
Information Technology
As part of the Green Warrior Initiative, the Information Technology department displayed their LOVE for animals by supporting the SPCA in Windhoek.
The IT Green Warrior Team made hotdogs that they sold internally to raise funds and together with a contribution by the Social Corporate Responsibility Fund, they were able to make a valuable contribution, in buying puppy and kitten food, cat litter, collars and leases.
Legal
The Legal Team chose to support Hope Initiative, donating blankets and warm clothes to deserving recipients
NedLife
The recipient of the Nedlife team’s benevolence was Eros Girl’s School
Oshana Mall Branch
As part of their Green Warrior initiative the Oshana Mall staff members researched a cause within their community which they believed in and could lend a Green Warrior hand to.
As a team they chose to help the special ward in the Oshakati Hospital where there are babies who lost their mothers during birth. The babies are being taken care of by the hospital up until they are 6 months old and then they are handed over to the respective families. The government only provides milk for them and additional necessities i.e. clothes and food is normally only donated by good Samaritans.
They decided to visit the special ward and spend some time with the babies, giving them much needed care and love
Otjiwarongo Branch
The Otjiwarongo Branch spent a day at the Cheetah Conservation Fund, learning about the work that the CCF does, and also convey the good news of a substantial Go Green Fund sponsorship.
Outapi Branch
The beneficiaries for the Outapi Branch were children of the John Pendukeni School, where they handed out school bags, stationery and other much-needed items to children most in need of it.
