Wilson and Pienaar win Nedbank for Good Series Round 9
6 August 2025
The Nedbank for Good Series completed its ninth round at the Outjo Golf Club on Saturday, 2 August, with local newcomer Henco Wilson and Oranjemund-based Yolanda Pienaar emerging as the first-ever champions of the series in Outjo in the men's and women's divisions, respectively.
The day's competition, which ran from 09h30 to 17h00, saw golfers navigating the challenging Outjo Golf Club course, which was making its debut on the series this year, joining Okahandja and Grootfontein as first-time hosts.
In the men’s division, Henco Wilson secured the top spot with an impressive 38 points counted in (C/I), followed closely by Terus Burger, who also scored 38 points counted out (C/O).
Local junior talent, Kruger Wilson, finished in third place with 36 points, while Christian Nghole and Simson Tsaneb rounded out the top five with 35 and 31 points, respectively.
Speaking after the tournament, Wilson expressed his happiness and gratitude for having the opportunity to play in such a well-organised and highly competitive event in Outjo:
‘I was surprised I won the competition. I didn’t expect it. The weather was perfect, making it a wonderful day to play golf. Outjo is sometimes windy and dusty, but today, the conditions were perfect. The competition was tough among us; we had local players, some came from Otjiwarongo, Tsumeb, and Grootfontein, while others came from as far as Orangemund. My son, Kruger, also played with us, and he is a talented boy who plays a solid 100.’
He added that, as local Outjo residents, they were grateful to the organisers and sponsors for bringing the tournament to their town:
‘This will encourage more residents to take up golf. Our club will kick off from here and go forward. We just needed someone to kick-start the process. Next year, we are looking at more players from Outjo and Otjiwarongo coming through and participating in the series, which also allows us to give back to charity.’
In the ladies' division, Yolanda Pienaar claimed the first-place prize.
The Nedbank for Good Series event organiser, Dan Zwiebel, praised Outjo Golf Club for its excellent atmosphere and strong community support:
‘We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the local community of Outjo and a special word of thanks to the club committee for keeping the establishment tidy and ready to play at their own cost. We would like to encourage the local businesses to get involved at Outjo Golf Club to ensure the gradual growth and upkeep of the golf course and to provide practice facilities for the youth.’
Zwiebel added:
‘This year, the Nedbank for Good Series has truly embodied our mission of taking golf to every corner of Namibia. The unearthing of immense talent at new venues such as Okahandja and Grootfontein is truly inspiring. It reinforces our belief that there is a wealth of untapped potential across the country, and it's our responsibility as organisers to provide these platforms. By bringing the series to different regions, we're not only growing the sport but also giving aspiring golfers a chance to showcase their skills and compete at a high level. It's about making golf accessible and proving that a champion can emerge from anywhere in Namibia.’
Nedbank Namibia Chief Commercial Officer, JG van Graan, highlighted the alignment of the series with the bank's core values:
‘The Nedbank for Good Series is more than just a golf tournament; it's a reflection of our ethos as money experts who do good in communities that we serve. We are committed to making a positive impact in these communities, and the Nedbank for Good Series allows us to bring people together for a worthy cause while promoting sportsmanship and healthy competition. The enthusiasm and community spirit we've witnessed throughout this series perfectly summarise what we stand for. For us, the Outjo leg of the series was a welcome return to the town, after hosting the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup earlier this year.’
The Nedbank for Good Series will now head to the coast for its next three rounds, starting with Henties Bay Golf Club and Lifestyle Estate on Saturday, 16 August, followed by Rossmund Golf Course on Saturday, 23 August, with Walvis Bay Golf Club completing the ‘coastal swing’ on Saturday, 30 August.
The proceeds from this year's series directly benefit Agra ProVision, which aims to provide training, services, and support to underserved agricultural communities.
The Nedbank for Good Series is made possible by the generous support of its partners, with Nedbank Namibia as the title sponsor, while Autohaus Windhoek, Vivo Energy, AfricaOnline, Agra, B2Gold, Gondwana Collection Namibia, JTC Namibia, King Price, Pupkewitz Megabuild, Town Lodge Windhoek, and WV-Manufacturing are co-sponsors, and Future Media is the media partner.
