Alex Miller and Delsia Janse van Vuuren took top honours at the 2026 Nedbank Namibia Cycle Challenge after they were crowned winners of the 100-kilometer race which took place on 22 February at the University of Namibia (UNAM).

The race, commonly known as ‘the Greatest Ride Under the Sun' saw over 600 cyclists take part in the 25, 60, and 100 km events, as well as the return of the Nedbank Kidz Challenge for the first time this decade, which took place on 21 February.

Namibian Olympic Cyclist, Miller won the men's competition in a time of two hours, 23 minutes and 59 seconds (02:23:59), ahead of second-placed Martin Freyer, who clocked 02:23:37. Third place went to Christiaan van de Westhuizen, who finished the race in 02:25:57.

Speaking after the race, Miller applauded the organisers for a well organised race: ‘Well done to the organisers for making this race a little bit more interesting. It was nice to have Kupferberg at the end. I hope to see a few more slightly more technical courses, with a bit more corners.’

He added: ‘I am happy that I won Namibia’s biggest road race for the second time in my career.’

In the elite women’s competition, Janse van Vuuren won the race in 03:02:21, ahead of second-placed Rosemarie Thiel, who was a split second behind in 03:02:21. Third place went to Belinda van Rhyn (03:02:22).

Speaking after her victory, Van Vuuren elaborated on her strategy: ‘My strategy was to break away from the team on the uphill after Avis Bridge, but the wind wasn't on my side, especially if you wanted to make a solo breakaway.

She also gave plaudits to Nedbank Namibia for organising the Nedbank Cycle Challenge.

Meanwhile, the Nedbank Kidz event organiser, Charmaine Shannon, said 35 kids partook in what she termed a successful event.

She added that the organisers have faith that the event will grow with years as long as it is hosted consistently.

Leander Borg of LEMA Events said hosting an event of this magnitude, which brought together elite professionals and social riders alike, demanded an incredible collective effort: ‘I want to pay a special tribute to the cycling community who stuck with this challenge. In recent years, there was a feeling that the event had lost some of its historic appeal, but by moving to the UNAM campus and redesigning the routes, we have proven that the 'Greatest Ride Under the Sun' is back and stronger than ever. We are immensely grateful to Nedbank Namibia, for their unwavering commitment to the sport. Our thanks also go to the City of Windhoek, UNAM for the venue, and the City Police for ensuring a safe and world-class event. This successful hosting would not have been possible without the tireless work of our commissars, marshals and volunteers who managed the logistics.’

Nedbank Namibia Chief Commercial Officer JG van Graan said that, as money experts who do good, when they decided to invest into cycling in 2013, the aim was to, amongst other things, turn cycling into one of Namibia’s greatest sporting strengths , allow Namibian youths to showcase their talents and encourage healthy lifestyles: ‘Our goal for this 40th anniversary was to elevate the experience for every participant. Seeing all these cyclists at UNAM is a testament to the enduring legacy of this event. The feedback on the new routes has been overwhelmingly positive, and the return of the Kiddies' event brought a family energy back to the race that we’ve missed. It was a flawless day of racing.’
