Foreign Bank Notes

• Security - Depending on the currency type, foreign banknotes have unique security features such as watermarks, foil threading, braille markings, holographic images and microprint.
• Speed - Foreign banknotes allow you to pay for goods and services immediately.
• Convenience - They are ideal for smaller purchases and expenses such as a cup of coffee, taxi fares and tipping porters and hotel staff.

Always carry foreign banknotes to pay for the small stuff when you are travelling abroad.
 

Visit any Nedbank Forex branch with:

• a valid passport;
• if travelling by air a valid air ticket indicating departure from a Namibian destination to a destination abroad;
• a valid barcoded identity document or smart identity card; and
• proof of residence if you are not a Nedbank accountholder.

General

• Foreign banknotes can be purchased by a person over the age of 18 who are travelling abroad either for a holiday or on business; and
• The amount of money that can be taken out of Namibia when travelling on holiday or business is subject to Exchange Control Limits as set by the Bank of Namibia (BON):

Holiday travel

• If you are 18 years or older, you are allowed to take out up to N$ 1million per year in travel allowances; and
• Children under 18 are allowed to take up to N$ 200 000 per year.

Business travel

• BON allows company employees to take up to N$10 million out of the country when travelling on business concerning the company.
