Towerbos Trails to host final Nedbank Rock and Rut XC series of the year

25 July 2024 The final race of the 2024 Nedbank Rock and Rut XC Mountain Bike Series is set to take place on Saturday, 27 July, at Towerbos Trails, a ne venue along the Daan Viljoen Road.

This will be the final Nedbank Rock and Rut XC Mountain Bike Series event of the year, with so much at stake as the overall winners of the series in the various race categories will be confirmed after the race.

One of the organisers from Rock and Rut Mountain Bike Club, Michael Hennes, sai they are looking forward to the event, with all preparations going well so far.

“We anticipate 90 to 100 riders for this race. Elite men cyclist, Alex Miller will not be competing as he is currently in France, where he is representing Namibia at the Paris Olympics. We would like to wish him luck. We will have three races on the day, with the first one set to start at 09h00,” he said. 

According to Hennes, Mimi Hough is the only female elite rider who stands a chance to win the overall title, while in the men’s elite event, there has been close competition between Miller, Martin Freyer, and Kevin Lowe.

“Currently, Kevin Lowe is ahead of Martin Freyer, and those two will battle it out for the 2024 title,” Hennes said.

This year, the Nedbank Namibia Rock and Rut Mountain Bike Series has seen new venues being introduced, namely Farm Bergquell, which successfully hosted XC3 races, and the Towerbos Trails, which is set to host the final series event on Saturday.

He added that hosting these races at different locations brought a different challenge for the cyclists. 

“The hosting of the races at these new venues is a good thing as it keeps the riders excited. Farm Bergquell Trails, which are close to 30 kilometres in length, have drawn favourable feedback from the riders who said they enjoyed racing there which means we will continue developing and improving the trails and the venue for future races,” Hennes concluded.
