Do your bit for conservation
Nedbank Namibia’s Go Green Fund has made grants totalling a whopping N$2,3 million to worthy conservation projects since the Fund was established in 2001.

The Fund has supported 26 conservation projects to date – some of them multi-phased.

These projects have ranged from research on species such as the lions of the Kunene Region, the black rhino, the African wild dog and the brown hyaena to small mammals such as the endemic black mongoose and the Cape ground squirrel.

Funding has also been made available for research on the Herero chat and the protection of the breeding ground of the Damara tern. The Namibia Raptor Rehabilitation Centre (NARREC) at Brakwater, just outside Windhoek, also received grants from the Go Green Fund.

Financial support for projects aimed at the rehabilitation and protection of a specific environment include Avis Dam, a popular recreation areas on the eastern outskirts of Windhoek, and the sensitive lichen fields along the coast.

Nedbank Namibia has also supported environmental award projects and environmental eduction projects such as the ‘Supporting Environmental Education for Underprivileged Project’ through its Go Green Fund.

The Sea Atlas and Monitoring Programme, the Namibian Environmental Directory and the Namibia Biodiversity Database are among the other conservation projects supported by the Fund.

How can you contribute?
Nedbank Namibia’s Go Green Fund is unique because it is funded by contributions made by the Bank for products sold in the Go Green suite – at no cost to the bank’s customers.

An amount of N$500 goes to the Fund for every home loan funded through Nedbank Namibia, while N$150 is donated to the Fund for every Nedbank Vehicle Finance arrangement exceeding a predetermined amount.

Only the best-motivated projects are approved and applications for grants must be supported by a detailed motivation on how the objectives of the funds will be achieved. Three to five projects are funded each year, depending on the amount of funds raised.
