NFA Women Championships
WINDHOEK - The ball gets rolling for the 2009 NFA Women Championships at the Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) Stadium in Windhoek this weekend and competition is expected to be fierce this time around.

The championship will see the best of Namibian women football with eight teams, three from the Khomas league and five regional teams from Karas, Kunene, Caprivi, Omusati and Kavango fighting it out for top honours.

Okahandja Beauties, Rehoboth Queens and JS Girls Football Academy will represent the Khomas league and the head of the NFA Women’s Desk Jacky Gertze, believes the competition will be more exciting this year:
"We have regional teams from the leagues in the five other regions and Khomas will have three teams – and I can assure you it will not be an easy stroll in the park for Beauties this time around," Gertze said.

Beauties are the defending champions, having won the last two editions and will look to make it three in the row. "Most players will want to impress the national selectors to be included in the national team at whatever level and so we expect great competition and indeed fair play," added Gertze.

The championships is sponsored by Nedbank to the tune of N$ 40 000 in conjunction with the NFA.

The teams are expected to be in Windhoek tomorrow where they will be grouped into two groups of four teams each. The tournament will be preceded by an opening ceremony on Saturday morning at 07h00 before the game start at 08h00. The group winners will play the final on Sunday at 10h00 at the SKW A Field while the 2nd placed teams from each group will contest the 3rd place playoff.
