Unveiling Nedbank Namibia

On 27 October 2004, Commercial Bank of Namibia was re-branded to be Nedbank Namibia.

His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr Sam Nujoma, presided over the unveiling ceremony of the new Nedbank Namibia at a glamorous function in front of our Main branch.

At the ceremony, Martin Shipanga, managing director of Nedbank Namibia, announced the bank's single biggest corporate social investment initiative, the N$1 million project. We are committed to maintaining - and enhancing - the deep involvement and commitment in our communities.

The flagship initiatives of Nedbank Namibia's N$1 million project are the ZERI mushroom project, which will enhance food production and create significant income-generating opportunities, and support for the Polytechnic of Namibia's accounting model project for small, medium and micro enterprises to enable these businesses to grow sustainably.

About 1000 people, mainly Namibian youths, will directly benefit from educational and entrepreneurial projects we are supporting of which about 600 have the opportunity to become engaged in an income generating activity. As each breadwinner on average supports six dependants, our investment in development is reaching thousands of citizens.

We're delighted that our own people are making our N$1-million project stretch even further by contributing their own time, skills and money to support our social initiatives. We're really serious about growth.
