Overview

Travelling is a pleasure or it should be, even on business trips and in the busiest of seasons. One of the frustrations often lies in foreign exchange - which currency to select, how much cash to carry, which traveller's cheques to use.

Nedbank makes foreign exchange simple. The bank charges no commission when buying or selling major currencies, stretching your travel budget further. Plus you benefit from highly competitive exchange rates, published in each bureau de change and on the website at www.nedbank.com.na

Nedbank's bureau de change in the popular tourist destination of Swakopmund offers the longest trading hours in the country. For maximum convenience, the primary Windhoek bureau de change is right opposite the bus terminus on Independence Avenue and offers you even longer trading hours.

Trained and friendly personnel are on hand to assist travellers in buying or selling foreign exchange, cashing traveller's cheques and other travel-related issues at foreign exchange desks and bureau de change in nine branches around Namibia.

Through years of experience, the forex teams at Nedbank have developed useful tips for tourists to the country and Namibians travelling abroad:

Carrying cash - carry just what you need. Make sure you have some small denominations in local currency for tipping. Get rid of your local coins towards the end of your stay.

Local currency - In Namibia, all merchants accept South African currency (rand).

Traveller's cheques - Note your traveller's cheque numbers and keep this separate from your cheques. Report lost or stolen traveller's cheques immediately to the vendor (eg Thomas Cook or Amexco) or call in at one of our foreign branches and we can assist you with reporting the loss. Nedbank offers a comprehensive range of leading traveller's cheques.

Debit card - With a Nedbank debit card, you do not need to carry cash or traveller's cheques. You can pay for goods and services in Namibia and South Africa at any Mastercard or Visa outlet, draw cash at ATMs and make secure electronic payments.

Copies of travel documents - keep copies of your passport, airline tickets separately from your wallet. Retain tickets and baggage slips until your luggage is safely with you.

For business travellers, Nedbank operates a fully-fledged corporate foreign exchange desk, ranging from foreign currency accounts, short-term trade finance products, revolving trade finance, letters of credit and specialised international finance capabilities. Given the number of European tourists to Namibia, the bank has built particular capability in the euro currency, drawing on the resources of correspondent banks globally.

You can contact the foreign exchange division of Nedbank Namibia on (061) 295 2033 (Chrissy Bagley), or visit any of the bank's branches for all your foreign exchange needs.
